Range adjustable sprinkler?

Hi,

I am looking for a sprinkler where you can adjust the range it covers from the device (not via the pressure from tap). I don't want the water to spread onto the path/road or into next door.

I've just put weed stop down and barked two parts at the front of my house and put some plants in. I'm worried they aren't getting enough water and working long hours so can often miss days where I don't have time to water them manually.

If I can, I'd like to put a sprinkler up at the front of my house on a timer.

Thanks,
Jamie

A seep hose /porous soaker hose laid into the beds and connected to a hose and timer is the best way to water. It gets to the roots, you use less water and you don't wet the leaves which could then scorch in the sun.

That does sound like a good way, thanks, though it is going to require more work/planning.

Would I have to lift the weed stop up now and put a seep hose underneath? Or could I put it on top of the weed stop and bury the hose in underneath the bark so it isn't visible? I'll also have to think about how to cross the path as there are two areas either side I need to keep well watered.

The Hozelock rectangular sprinkler is adjustable.

The red tabs, showing on the left in the image, can be moved to restrict movement of the oscillating bar.

Thanks, do you know what width this covers?

You can bury under the bark and on top of the membrane it will just need watering for longer.
I leave mine on for about 4 hours but only at a trickle. Use ordinary hose to connect between beds.
If you aren't on a water meter you will have to get one fitted if you are going to use a sprinkler and if you are the seep hose is very economical in use as it just does seep not pour!

    Thanks for the info.

I am on unmetered, so if I used a sprinkler, I'd have to tell my water company and they'd say I need to get a meter??

Yes. Severn Trent require it a follows:

Who has to have a meter?

If you choose to use a garden sprinkler or other automatic garden watering devices you must have a meter fitted. This is because these devices can use more water in an hour than a family of four does in two days

so I imagine every other company would just check their website.
In fact it seems a seep hose on a timer might qualify as well!

There are 2 or 3 different models in that Hozelock range, with a maximum coverage from 180 sq metres to 300.

That's news to me too.  I've used a drip irrigation system and sprinkler for years and don't have a meter.  Sprinkler doesn't actually get used much, but the drip system will actually have less wastage than using a watering can.  I know most of my neighbours also use sprinklers and also know none of them have meters either.

It would be very difficult to regulate. I think as long as you don't take the micky filling swimming pools up you'll be good!
