Missed the Spring for pruning Camellia and Peiris

Could anyone tell me please;  can I prune my pieris and camellia now ( 12th July ) My reason for wanting to prune is because they both have long and now spindly wood and need to reduce their size.  Thanks

    I don’t know about other people but I chop bits off of any plants when they need it at any time.  
    If you prune hard now you may not get so many flowers next year, but the long straggly bits can come off now.

    @paul759 I would agree with Lyn about the straggly bits, however if the plant has formed tiny buds (which my camellia has already for next year's flowering) then don't prune them off if as Lyn says you want flowers next year.  The flowers are a welcome colour in the Spring and I am sure you would be sorry not to have them as would the early rising bees miss them too.
