is clings to the wall and damages the external render ... it has large fat buds in Spring ... this picture was taken in Spring actually.0

Great for small birds (robins and wrens etc) they love seeking out little insects in the flaking bark and they build their nests in amongst the dark foliage.

I can see your problem.
I too would be very concerned to have that growing up my home.
I would definitely consider removing it completely before it gets even larger and damages you render.

They attach with aerial roots.see link below.
If you pull it off you may do damage.
I suggest cutting it at ground level...wait for whole plant to die...roots will shrivel...only when very very dead/brown/shrivelled try removing from the wall.
