Portulaca à question

JacquimcmahonJacquimcmahon Posts: 1,039
morning all, I have been given some plants with really lovely bright colored flowers. On the internet i see that they are Portulaca.

They have  clearly already had flowers and now have round pods full of seeds. My guest ion is are the seeds worth keeping, and if so when would they need starting off again?

Trying again for some advice. I have managed to get a photo of the seeds so keep, sow or chuck?

I grew these last year in a avery hot, dry bed around our well.   They flowered for months in reds, pinks, yellows, oranges and white.  I had hoped they would self seed but maybe I've been too quick to plant dwarf, scented pinks instead for this year.

I suggest you plant yours out too and see what they do.  You may need to nip out obvious seed heads if you want it to flower again this summer.

    Here's some info - https://www.growveg.com/plants/us-and-canada/how-to-grow-portulaca/

Thanks Obelixx according to that website seed needs sowing in springtime so the heads which have already developed I’ll stick in an envelope. Pinching them out is hard as the next flower head seems to be right on top of the last one.

ill get the remaining ones into pots tomorrow and see what happens. Sounds like they should love this crazy dry weather.
