My Spear and Jackson shears must be 30 years old and still serve me well. If I were to replace them I’d probably get Spear and Jackson Razorsharp or, better I think but certainly more expensive, ARS AK 1000. Check out the reviews on Amazon. I’d also be looking at the offerings from Okatsuwe and Niwaki. The Japanese are masters of the art of topiary.

I think it depends on what you are using them for - if you are using them for topiary or fine work and are prepared to look after them really well then it’s worth investing in the best. I got a cheapo pair from Aldi or Lidl (can’t remember which) years ago and they have lasted well, but I only use them for rough shaping to keep various shrubs under control.

  • Agreed I've got a few cutting tools from Lidl (they brand them florabest) and they have lasted well with frequent use and are dirt cheap. But have a couple of electric trimmers to do the majority of the work.

I just bought these - can't go wrong for a tenner I thought. But they're actually really good and feel solid. Cut really well.
