Incredible cropping tomatoes

I am growing these tomatoes in my greenhouse. As indicated on the packet the cropping power is amazing. I am a bit concerned the stems may not be strong enough to hold all these fruits. Has anyone had experience with this variety? Would it be sensible to try to rig up some sort of support for them? The main plant stem is supported by a strong cane as recommended on the packet but no mention of support for these huge trusses. Thanks in anticipation of any advice.

Or loop some twine through the trusses and support from the roof, if you have somewhere to tie it to.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

I had this variety last year but outside, so the trusses were more manageable (but they still needed supporting). They produce a lot but the taste is average, nothing special.

I wondered about the taste too. From the packet photo you do have to pose the question whether quantity over quality is what they are going for with this variety. phillipa i had the yellow pear ones last year but they set more like conventional cherry  varieties taste was good but they took ages to ripen properly.
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.

I’m growing Ildi as well, for the first time. But my trusses are pitiful compared to yours. I think there’s on 15-20 per truss, and I’ve got 6 trusses per plant. I pinch out the tops this week.

Agreed with the above comments. If all those flowers form fruit they’ll need some support.

  • Many thanks to you all for your help and advice. I have now looped some string round the largest trusses and fastened it to the greenhouse ceiling as suggested. I don’t usually grow tomatoes but this was a packet of free seed so decided to give it a try!

Normally, how many tomatoes would you expect to get per truss?  I am feeling distinctly inadequate with my small trusses....

I've got them as well and mine are between the two photos (though closer to the first) I was also wondering about extra support, mine are on strings but I fear they may get too heavy for them.
