Conifer shaping.

i have several lemon scented conifers (don’t know their real names beautiful bushy pale green/yellow foliage, growing to a distinct conical shape).

all are really healthy. And in large pots my question is should I trim them at all or will they simply come to a halt when they reach the limit of the current pots? I can’t go up much more in pot size so really need to keep them at their current height..

I think we need to identify them first, Jacqui - any chance of photos?

I also reckon they’re goldcrest - I’ve got seven small and one coming up for three feet.  I don’t trim them much, just light shaping.

Mine have grown very slowly but steadily over the years, I move the larger one up in pot sizes accordingly but I believe keeping them in small pots restrains their growth.

I bought the first ones from ikea they were about 50cm, that would be 5 years ago and they are now taller than me so I would guess about 1meter 60. From what I’m seeing they could keep going unless I manage to trim or restrict based on the pot size.

i originally bought 2 and when I saw tiny ones a couple of years later I bought 4 more, they are now easily over a meter too. I really love the smell when you brush past them and the zingy foliage is wonderful in winter when darker greens can seem dull.
