We are in a Waitrose black hole here so I can't comment on them.
We have a tiny one in a shopping centre in the next city over and a slightly bigger one at the other side of that city and then a 15 mile trip to another tiny one.

The North East isn’t their target demographic it seems 😂

    Back on topic:

It’s maddening but there’s not much that can be done about it save petitioning to have a law passed about caring for the stock pre purchase.

Maybe we all start lifting bottled water from the shelves and watering them ourselves? Then hand in the empty bottles at Customer Services and tell them we won’t invoice for our time. 😂
  • I work for one of the cooperative societies. We have had lots more plants brought in since the pandemic. As a community store owned by its customers, I can tell you that head office does listen to complaints.
Last year I tried to make sure the plants were watered when I was there (I only work 3 days), and they got a good drenching on the one day I open up. Unfortunately, when I went on holiday in June, we had a scorching hot couple weeks and no-one bothered to water them. By the time I got back, a whole rack of bedding plants were crispy from neglect.
One of our customers complained to head office and we got into all sorts of trouble over it. Apparently she asked one of our younger team leaders what happens to them and he said "Oh, we just waste them out" as if that was somehow OK!
On the plus side, using old flower buckets, compost from broken bags and rescued plants I made a lovely ad hoc garden in our goods yard 😄

You could have stood all the roses in buckets, and it wouldn't have done any good, as the stems were coated in wax, and the root so bound in film that no water could have reached them @TheGreenMan

That wax stuff drives me mad @purpleallim I look forward to hearing whether or not you could save it. I must admit it's the kind of challenge l like.
