Disinfectant and crops

Good evening all. I’ve never been green fingered, not until this year anyway and everything that I have planted has grown and are growing marvellously for my first season (I think). However, I’ve just watered my veg and got a lovely fragrance not belonging to anything I was watering - it turns out my partner had used my geo-more watering feeder attachment with disinfectant in and that i was using. He put about 10ml and used to clean he patio. I don’t know how much diluted disinfect remained but mynworry now is; am I going to lose all of my hard work? I gave them a good dosing of fresh water after he told me. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated! Many thanks, Sarah

I'd be mad as hell if I inadvertantly drizzled something unwanted over my plants but you are probably worrying about nothing. Disinfectant has a strong smell so even a small amount will be a tad overpowering. There is little you can do about this apart from keep your fingers crossed and hope that your plants haven't been inconvenienced by the addition of disinfectant to their water. The bottle should have some blurb that tells you what to avoid.....it's usually pets and fish......so if there is no mention of radishes or beans etc. then everything should be fine.

  • Thanks for your input Ceres. They were still thriving this morning but as you said, only time will tell *fingers crossed*

you did the right thing in watering them again with clean water, if you are still worried you can give them another good soaking. It may be an idea to read the label and see what the ingredients are in the disinfectant, you may need to wait a while before you can eat anything from the patch.
  • These are the ingredients in the disinfectant, no idea what I am looking for mind.

Contains benzyl salicylate, tetramethyl acetyloctahydronaphthalenes, citronellol, linalool and limonene.

Hubby used weed control once, at which point I insisted everything is labelled
