I am new to gardening and downloaded an app to help me identify weeds. However it seems to think this one is a plant but I think it’s a weed. Could anyone help confirm if I need to water it or dig it up please? It the little purple ones in the picture.
I know the others at the side of it is a lady’s mantle so I’m watering those.
Look out for them as perennial plants too - they look a bit different. More like a small rosette of stems with leaves, and they're quite a dark red. [hope that makes sense!] Still quite easy to pull up though.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
They are a good food source for several insects, and en masse in 'the wild' with other things like hogweed, they can look impressive, but they have no place in a small, domestic setting and will quickly seed everywhere. A mature plant can produce 100,000 seeds.

I like the look of them so I let them grow when I first saw them and didn't know any better. They get everywhere and you will be pulling them until the end of time. I still let some of them grow for a bit but I try to pull them before they set seed.
There is an expression, one year's seed, seven years weed. Unless you want something to multiply freely it's best to keep on top of the weeding, removing them before they flower or at least the moment the flowers fade. I'm always amazed by how fertile weeds are and how they prosper where are cultivated plants struggle. I suppose that is why we call them weeds!
