    Heleniums are also good - there are lots of varieties readily available, and they're easy to grow, need little staking [especially if among other plants] flower later in summer into autumn, and are easy to propagate by division. Most are around 3 feet or so. Oranges and yellows. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    For something flowering towards the end of the season , consider Cimicifuga (Actaea)spp.

    Has anyone mentioned Cephalaria gigantea, an 8-foot self-supporting scabious?  I love it...
