I am concerned as to the roots as I would like to gift my second black lace (in large pot) to our Church for the small garden area next to the brand new extension. I know its wanted, its beauty is noted, but I sense the fear??

It's a large shrub so needs space, so you would have to plant 150cm from the edge anyway.  And it’s roots, while vigorous, are not invasive.
