bears breaches

I have a lovely large path of bears breeches, for the past two years they have flowered well but the leaves, are brown, dried and full of holes. can't work out if its insect attack or something else, anyone knows what this is? they get good sun in the morrning and more dappled shade later in the day. thank you  lizzie   what this is?

    I have those in my front garden and some of the leaves do that too. I just cut them right down and new leaves will appear. They've always done that so am assuming its part of their cycle.
