How about a spring-loaded shower curtain rail ‘wedged’ between the walls at an appropriate height with butchers’ hooks for the things you want to hang off it!  Total flexibility and nothing permanent.

Hard as Nails or Epoxy should be fine.

Heavy duty Velcro might work for some things?

Make a wooden frame - any old strips of wood, screwed together - which fits tightly into the box against one side.  Attach sturdy plastic or wire mesh to it.  Use meat hooks.  Might that work?

Thanks again for all of the recommendations!
I managed to find some extra strong super glue in the cupboard and reuse the Wilko hooks that had previously fallen off. They obviously can't be moved now but they stuck on really well and hold a good weight (gloves, hand fork etc.). Even after a couple of hot weekends the hooks are holding well.

At last we can have some extra storage!
