I have gone back to the guy who laid it and he says this is normal, and in his experience when the grass starts growing it will literally pull it towards the soil.
Any thoughts on this?
Having spoken to other people around here none of them had a problem with stones on the new turf (we are on a new estate).
It's probably best to check carefully before you mow, and if there are any big stones still on the surface before you mow. And set the blades high (you should be doing that anyway for a new lawn).
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
tbh no lawn is perfect, I can hardly get a pitchfork in in some places on mine. Atleast they say they put in a good baselayer even if the turf layer is a bit stoney. If all it takes is a day picking them up with a bucket - that is a small price to pay for owning a lawn compared to all the weeding and mowing throughout the year lol.
