I have just taken on an allotment which is knee to waist high in various weeds, what is the best way to tackle these?.

Others will suggest different methods:  my word of warning is don't rotavate it.   Some of those weeds are sure to be perennials which will re-grow from the tiniest piece of root.  Rotavating chops the roots into pieces and scatters them, making the problem worse.

So exciting getting a plot can you takes some pictures so we can see please, where abouts are you?

If you have a strimmer cut it down or use sheers cover some as it makes it eaiser to dig after the ground has been covered for a while, digging with a fork better than a spade as that would chop up the weeds - forks will ease the roots out bag weeds best to take to the tip do not compost as bet they would have lots of seeds on which will re grow
