Potting up borage best?

FireFire Posts: 19,096
I have a lot of self seeded borage which I would like to pot up and give to friends. I tried it last year with mixed success. Lots of seedlings just died, despite my best efforts.

I would aim to take up all the root ball and a good amount of earth around it.
I know they can have deep tap roots so will make efforts to dig down
I would add grit to the potting mix and add grit and keep it well watered

Any other ideas? I don't want to give the pots to have the plants them die.

Thanks

You might get away with seedlings, but larger plants will not survive. I had a load like that last year (and even more this year). My friend took some, but they only had the seed leaves and a couple of true leaves, taken with a block of soil around the rootball.  These small ones survived. Larger ones didn't.

I've found that even when it survives it doesn't do very well, but it does well enough to seed so next year they can have decent self seeded ones!
