    Agreed on both counts Fidget - not seeing anything that I would recognise as dianthus.🤔

    Agree with all those.  The dianthus may be one of the Sweet Williams (D. barbatus) as some of those have wider leaves.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

    any advise on what to do with them.

    Any ideas what sort of dianthus that could be?

    The verbena bonariensis can go out now, as can the achillea.  The rest I'd keep in those pots until they are at least twice the size and you see plenty of roots when you gently tip them out.  Given that they are all perennials, it's best to let them grow quite large before planting out, even if it means another repotting which will give them a much better chance to get established;  Young perennials are a favoured mollusc snack.
