You’re welcome - forgot to say, Lady of Shallot is not compact and will need some support, does get blackspot here, but is healthy in the UK. She is my ‘what the hell, I love her and will keep anyway’ rose! I would add that I also have Gertrude Jekyll, the first flush is amazing but does not repeat very well and is very thorny. She was on my ‘keep’ list but I’m swithering, as there are better repeating pink roses out there...

I was looking at Gertrude Jekyll! So what, in your opinion is a better repeat flowering pink rose, Nollie?

Thank you, Joy. I do like New Dawn and from your description looks like one for the list!

2 I definitely will be buying are Windflower, a DA. I had this at previous house and was a wonderful rose. Very 'airy' with long arching stems, gorgeous pink and lovely scent. Another DA I'd like is Sombreuil. I saw this year's  ago and fell in love with it! I'm very interested in Rosa Jasmine a pink climber with apparently a strong perfume and a very healthy plant. I'll put up a list of the ones I'm I retested in and if anyone can give me feedback from their experiences, that would be wonderful. Those who have already tried have helped me a great deal so very many thanks to you all

Gertrude Jekyll certainly seems to be one of the most popular roses of the moment.

Well I would only be parroting Marlorena re Gertrude Jekyll, when I asked if there may be a better alternative, so here’s the advice direct from the rose guru:

M has some good pics of both C de Chambord (parent of GJ) and Scepter’d Isle if you scroll forward from that point, and also recommends Armada as a good climbing pink.

In addition to the poor repeat blooming, I have GJ in a very large pot which can’t contain her, as she wants to climb. One option for me is to move her to a less prominent position where she can climb and I can enjoy the glorious first flush but otherwise there are no repeat performance pressures....

I am completely new to roses myself but after doing a bit of research I had my mind set on a new variety called Lovestruck.
It won rose of the year in 2018 so nobody here will have grown it yet.

I'd be a bit disappointed as there apparently is not much fragrance with Lovestruck.

My Comte de Chambord has been balling badly in the rain.  It's a new rose, planted last Autumn, so I'm not sure if it will overcome this or if it just has this issue regardless. Can't comment on GJ yet as mine is only just now making buds (another new rose), but it's very vigorous and healthy.

I would recommend Princess Alexandra of Kent as a good pink Austin. It is a different pink and a different bloom shape than Gertrude Jekyll but it is also very fragrant, vigorous and reliable. Also, reasonably disease resistant and weather resistant.
