Storing garlic Light or Dark

Read 3 of my books on it and none say whether the garlic has to be stored in the dark.........like spuds
Thoughts please friends

I string mine up in a dark, cool, dry shed... something I have always done, so can’t remember if its obligatory or not!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
