Delphiniums

Janie BJanie B Posts: 963
My delphiniums looked stunning this year, but are coming to the end of their flowers. Am I right in thinking that if I cut them back they may flower again? And if so, when and how far back should I cut them...? Many thanks.

If there are no further flowers down the stem, cut them back to the base. I very rarely see further flowers in a season.

Ah, ok, thanks. I'll do that and see how they go...

Bought some delphiniums at the Chatsworth Flower Festival and the accompanying leaflet advises cutting back to about 2” from the ground. It adds that whether or not there is a small second flowering is dependent on the variety.

2 inches? That's really low! Cheers.
