Monstera plant - help!

Hi there :) 

i have recently been given this monstera plant as friends moving. Is there anyway I can encourage the plant to grow upwards, I know I can put in a lattice or pole and tether the branches. Is this the best option? 
Also one of the branches has broken - can I propagate?

    Hello Marindalbrooks and welcome to the forum. You have actually answered your own question. Yes, you can separate the broken branch from the parent plant  and place in a new pot but the parent plant needs to have support, as you've mentioned, to grow upright. In the wild they grow up tree trunks.

    Thank you ladybird4 for your prompt reply! Should I put the broken branch in water for a week or so before repotting?

    If it is a branch/leaf it will not root. If it is an offshoot it should root in water.

    Monsteras will grow from leaf cuttings.

    Only if they have part of the stem attached though.

    I’m pretty sure it is a stem. I’ll take a photo and send it through just to be sure

    Yes Marindalbrooks, you can pot that up and you'll have another plant. You can bury the aerial roots in the pot to help start it off.

    No, it will be happy in a pot but keep the compost nice and moist for it.
