Hellebore leaves advice please

My hellebores are huge and have completely covered some smaller winter box shrubs. I would like to cut off the hellebore leaves. Will this seriously damage the plants or are they as tough as old boots? Does anyone know?

    Can you say which type they are?
    Some do not like leaves cut off, others are okay.

    I know the H. niger you should leave the leaves. But if it is them and they are huge I can't see why it would hurt to remove some.
    I would guess you might have others or big hybrids they do grow huge and I would remove some.

    They are pink H. Niger - about 5 years old now and enormous. I did not realise they would grow so big! I might just remove the worst offending leaves to give the other shrubs some light.
