Brambles!

My old neighbour couldn't look after her garden - she had 12 foot bramble bushes growing up against our neighbouring fence. The new owner of the home ripped out the prickly monsters - but they just keep coming back ... through the fence to my side of the garden. It grows into my flower beds, so close to the roots of my plants and shrubs that it's impossible to dig up. I have now, after 14 years of fighting this problem, amd deciding to start all-out chemical warfare on the bramble if I have to. So... what's the best way to rid it from my garden? Any suggestions would be really helpful - just nothing that suggests I pull up my blackthorn, elderberry, honeysuckle or clematis which it is sprouting between :)
Many thanks !

the new neighbour cut all the brambles down, called it a job and then let them regrow for 14 years... He probably just made the problem worse by letting the plant branch out more.
Brambles are pretty easy to control, you follow the canes to the root source ,give it one whack with a spade and pull out the roots, then its job done.

Nothing you can do if they keep coming back from your neighbours. You could complain to the council if his garden is untidy, an eyesore and attracting pests

If it is in neighbouring gardens it will keep appearing in yours through seeds dispersed by birds. Vigilance is the only solution, keep checking and rip it out as early as possible.
