    They need to mature on the plant to get good viable seed.

    As Paul B3 said there are other heads coming there,  so explain to your little man (bless him) you will need to leave one so you can get more pretty flowers next year.
    It has to stay on the plant and go brown.
    The seed heads are also rather a nice round  shape and decorative in their own way.

    If you manage then he can shake the seeds out like a pepper pot.
  • You are so lucky, it's gorgeous. Poppies are one of my favourite flowers. All the ones that have come in my garden this year are singles. Pretty colours but for the amount of foliage, a little disappointing.

    Working in a garden the other day , they had a single-flowered form ; very dark-purple with an almost bluish tinge .
    Will make sure I get a seed - head or two .
    Got to be a 'must-have' ! :p

    @Paul B3 - I couldn't agree more. They are all fantastic flowers.

    This one, @Muddle-Up?

    I have these in my garden:

    Most of them are the slightly lighter, more 'raspberry' colour, but a few come out slightly richer.

    If Monty has the same then there probably isn't a cultivar name as mine arrived by themselves (these are the seedlings of the seedlings of those that first popped up).

    The top one is a photo of my TV screen. Do you think mine (bottom two pics, different lighting conditions) are the same / similar? I would be happy to send on some seeds if so, though of course there's no guarantee they'll be the same colour next year!

    Yes - different light, different technology, different visual perception and different memories - not conducive to accuracy! And then when you throw in plant genetics... well we have to just enjoy it all really.
