Disposing of stones

This could be an absolutely absurd question, but recently I dug a new bed into the garden. In doing this I amassed a pile of stones and pieces of rubble of various sizes.

It's not a huge pile, but big enough that it looks ugly and despite my best efforts on the council website, I can't work out how to dispose of stones.

Does anyone have any idea of how this is normally done, or any inventive ideas of how I could use the stones in my garden?

My council take rubble at the tip to crush up for recycled hardcore. Otherwise try Freecycle or Gumtree, you'd be amazed what some people are after.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

We  can take stones rocks etc to the council tip,  but only 4 bags at a time.....they don't specify how big or small the bags should be.

Freecycle and or/Freegle.  For every person carving out more growing space in their garden, there's someone going for the stony desert look.  Or wanting hardcore to fill the bottom of their new raised beds.

If you take them to the tip, our council class them as rubble/hardcore. Unless you turn up with a van (of any size) which they class as commercial and you have to book, it's not a problem. We've got rid of around 8 bags of large stones and rubble at a time.

At our council tip there is a section for hardcore.  They even want old crockery put in there.

I've got the same problem - masses of rocks of different sizes, mostly smallish and not interesting enough for a rockery but they're all at the bottom of a long, sloping garden and the idea of barrowing them up to the top of the hill in several heavy loads is really offputting.  In the interim, I've filled in a space round a large ash tree tree that already had a decorative rockery stones and a few plants surrounding it.  It doesn't look great but at least gets them out of the way. I had hoped there might be some suggestions here as to anything arty that could be done with them but it looks as if everyone is as bamboozled as me with regard to inventive ideas!

Our council offer a bulky item removal for a cost - 25 bags removed for £20. I occasionally use it for removing clay, rubble etc as I don't have a car.

CazzieT rock piles make for  useful wildlife habitat. If you have the space you could cover your rock pile with a log pile.

Bag them and list them on Gumtree.

If you're in Nottingham, I'll come and collect some of them! I won't charge you a penny!
