Allotment boy is right about pH scale being logarithmic, but a difference of 1 pH unit is equal to a ten fold difference in acidity. A change from pH 7 to pH 5.7 is a big increase in acidity.
Quite right I got carried away with my zeros sorry! I saw on a past episode of Beechgrove a garden where they had one area of acid soil in a garden and that was attributed to pine needles but again the trees had been there for 30 years plus. So I think it can happen but as a way of changing soil pH it is not viable unless you are prepared to wait years,
