What is this?

in Wildlife gardening
We had this visit our wildlife pond today. It was dipping up and down into the water and then landed long enough to get the attached photo. Any ideas? 

It was big!

    Try Broad bodied female Chaser.
    Not terribly up on Dragonfly and friends.
    But think it is.

    Edit oops a step behind Bob as usual :o:D

    I've seen a few of the two-legged variety.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

    Ooh yes! I have just looked it up; apparently they are usually first to colonise a new pond which ours is. We only got the water filled up a few months ago.

    Or there’s gin and ginger ale with a wedge of lime = A Dragonfly 😋 

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    Really pleased for you, the males look very handsome, did you see?
    Nice grey bloom with little yellow markings.
    Good luck with your new pond, although I don't think you need it, think you have approval from the wildlife already  :)
