Cosmos. I didn't pinch some out properly...

...and now there's a flower bud on the top.
Is it too late to pinch out again? They're about a foot high.

    Not too late at all.
Cosmos grow like mad this time of year, the only downside is you may delay flowering for about 10 minutes :)

Post a pic and someone will know. You pinch out to make it bushy and you'll get more flowers.

My cosmos are still tiny this year along with many other things  :( A foot high :o I wish! It's being a pretty cold June so i hope they pick up soon.

It may be a small cosmos. The flowers on the stem are terminal flowers so the plant will bush out from below naturally.
The other shoot already appears to be quite bushy, so I'd guess you don't need to pinch out.
If a stem is getting too tall, just nip out the top.
Cosmos grow quickly and you'll do no harm pinching out a shoot even if it's the wrong shoot :)

In my experience cosmos do not need pinching. Of course they can grow quite tall and may need support later on.
