Why have these leaves turned yellow?

I planted two Strawberry Tree Shrubs (Arbutus Unedo) last summer to form a hedge, and have notice over the last month or so that some of the leaves have been turning yellow and then dropping off.

Should I be worried? I have not fertilised them at all, just planted them in compost last summer and left them to it.

Other than this problem, they look quite healthy and there has been new growth.

Any helpful advice would be appreciated!

    These look like old leaves. Evergreen shrubs do drop their old foliage regularly. Nothing to worry about, but you could give it a feed with Gromore or Chickens pellets.

    Apart from Arbutus Unedo, other varieties are less tolerant of neutral to alkaline conditions, so to be on the safe side, plant them in ericaceous compost.

    Thanks for the advice, I think I will catefully dig out the surrounding soil and replace with ericaceous to be on the safe side!
