ID please

Hi.  What have I got please?  I rescued these from a friends rubbish heap last year, and planted them, thinking they were alliums or onions.  They don't seem to be the flowers, but do onions have these tops?  Thanks in advance

    Do the leaves smell 'oniony' when you crush them?
    I think there is a type of onion where you have a head that you can use.
    Maybe someone else will be more knowledgeable than me!

    They are some sort of allium / onion , allium are part of the onion family

    Yes, leaves are oniony, rather nice actually :smile:

    We have them in our front garden. The top will open up to show what I can only describe as seeds. A neighbour always pinches mine so I do know what the are like but I think he eats them but wouldn't swear to it.

    Looking at the stems and the shape of the bud they might be allium "summer drummer".

    Brilliant, thanks muchly all.  I'm going to plant them out in the sunniest spot I can find & have more patience.  Do we think it'll be too late for them to flower this year?  Nannaboo - cheeky blooming neighbour!  :-(

    Late to the party, but if the buds have little bulbils in them instead of flowers they could be walking onions.
    Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

    Hi Jenny. Opened one up - can't make out if it's bulbils or a flower head. Time will tell. Thanks for introducing me to walking onions - hadn't heard of them before! :-)

    Pretty sure they are not walking or welsh onions, they have slightly different leaves, more tubular and hollow. Id say they are summer drummer, or possibly white cloud. I had one very similar last year which opened in mid to late summer and turned out to be white cloud https://forum.gardenersworld.com/discussion/1015201/id-please/p1
