Advice on privacy, cutting back conifers and starting a wildlife garden.

Hi Monty and GW team. You asked for garden problems that you may want to visit. I’ve just bought a house that I haven’t moved into because it needs some building work doing. It has a very big garden, photos attached. Many issues as you can see, the trees block out a lot of light to the left, one huge conifer tries to hide the pylon at the end of the garden. A house to the right overlook the garden I’m thinking of removing conifers and putting in a tall type of bamboo in container to soften the view- need advice. The lawn isn’t level and very lumpy to mow, it needs levelling and a new lawn. I want this to be a bee and wildlife friendly garden. Thinking of a small orchard at the bottom, then a wildflower meadow with insect hotels. I have loads of potted plants to go into ground when I move like small Dickson is, bamboo (in containers), fatsia, roses, so a jungle element. I want a child friendly pond, all the fences need replacing and secure as I’ve just got a 2 year old rescue dog.
I am into re-using and re-cycling so don’t need a brand new everything. I want to have garden sculptures and support artists and happy to have creative old junk turned into a sculpture. I need water butts as the garden needs to work hard to look after itself. Surrounded by paddocks in Leicestershire. I would love some guidance to turn this blank canvas into a wildlife haven. Oh I’m also getting a night garden camera as advised by bbc gardenwatch. Many thanks x

Hello and welcome to the forum. I rather think you need to repost to a different email address, not sure how you would get hold of Monty Don himself. Hopefully somebody else might know.

Why would you want to ask a TV Presenter advice on what to do with your garden? There are far more experienced gardeners on here as forum members. I'm sure you'll get a few tips.

Me... I'm great with maintenance but not so good with ideas and design!

@perintowlson ... this is the GW magazine web site ... I think you’re looking for the programme website with the contact details for your garden problems, which is towards the bottom of the page here https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006mw1h

    Hope that helps 😊

@perintowlson , l think you need to contact the Gardeners' World programme through their Facebook page, if memory serves me right.
This forum doesn't have a direct link to the programme l'm afraid. If you want advice from anyone other than Monty and co though, there are people on here who would be happy to help.
    Let us know  :)
Confused me there,  you changed your username  !
  • Thank you AnniD, I have clearly caused a stir and put on the wrong site which I will try to correct.

At the end of the last GW Monty Don did ask people with specific problems to contact the programme - he just didn’t make clear how!
