I planted and looked after this species (Pineapple Broom) a few years ago in a large garden I maintained ; full-sunshine and neutral pH free-draining loam seemed its only requisite .
Not sure about the leaf problem though ; was the plant raised in nursery conditions and then exposed to the elements ?
Maybe the roots needed breaking up a bit if it had been potted for a long time .
Thanks Paul.....should I dig it up again and break up the roots or just leave it to settle in? It has John Innes number 3 and fish, blood and bone in the hole with it and we did break the root up a bit and sprinkled it with root powder. Not sure if it came from a nursery because I bought it at a garden show. We followed the sellers instructions.
Well , as you've only had it planted for two weeks I'd be inclined to do as you suggest .
Lift carefully and gently tease the roots apart with a garden fork ; then keep moist especially at this time of year ( though with the forecast for this week you may not need to)!!!!
Over the years I've found this stimulates root re-generation and leads to a more vigorous growth regimen .
Good luck with it anyway , it's a very attractive plant with striking blooms !
