Rose question

My mum sadly passed away and I am in the process of clearing her house. There are 2 roses in the garden I would really like to have. Would it be pointless trying to relocate them now, in June ?
Many thanks.

I would try to take them,  if you leave them there you will have lost them anyway.  I would water them well,  dig them out with as big a rootball as possible, put them into a big trug to get them to your place and plant them in a prepared hole, feed and water them well and hope for the best.

This is what would do.  Others may have different ideas.

Just to add, I would cut them back by about a third.

I have moved roses in the summer successfully.  It's not ideal but certainly worth trying.  I would take all the flowers off them and cut them back as suggested by Omori. Don't let them dry out this year.

I moved a lot of plants in spring or summer before I knew I wasn’t supposed to, including a few roses, and all but one forest flame survived.  I put them in huge pots with loads of fresh compost and some plant food and watered every day.

You’ve nothing to lose, so may as well try.
  • As as well as suggested above, why not also take a few cuttings - will increase your chances of something surviving!

Thank you all. I was worried that I would kill them. I have no idea of the species so couldn’t easily replace them. I’ll give it a go.

You could post some pictures on here and I bet someone could ID them for you.
