    No idea.
Have you tried having a feel around the roots?

I've got them in large pots. Could they be root bound maybe?

Tip the pot upside down, remove pot and see if the roots fill it.

Give us a clue Pete, I know there’s some clever people on here but no one with a crystal ball. A photo of the root  ball would help.

Sorry I'm new to this forum.
They are in large pots partially sunk into the ground.
Sounds like I've got to lift them then?

How long have they been in  the pots?
They make big root systems, so there's a good chance there's not much soil left in the pots - just lots of roots.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

    Thanks for replying.
They've been in them for 2 years. Several new shoots in each pot.
I have 2 negra which look fine and 2 each of green and gold., it's the green and gold ones that are going brown.

Hi Petawake, I have 2 8ft bamboo's in two very large tubs. Have you fed the bamboo is a grass and I feed mine with lawn fertiliser but no the one that is weed, feed and moss killer. You must make sure it's just lawn feed, they are also a very thirsty plant so in the summer if we don't have rain a bucket of water per day and if we do get rain I still give them water ever other day. If they get to big for the pot or are already to big you can split them. I'm using mine as a screen so my neighbours can't see into my lounge.
