Chives- dividing just now
in Plants

I've had these chives in this pot for a bit under 2 years now and they definitely seem significantly weedier this year.
Suspecting they need divided but have read early spring/autumn is best. Could I still do it just now without too much going wrong?

Plant them (in the ground if poss) water, and stand well back ... they'll love having more space.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
They look like they need a bit of tlc, so it's probably worth just splitting into two clumps, repotting in fresh compost/soil and giving them a good drink. They like a little more shade than many other herbs too, so you could keep them out of full sun until they get going again.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Don't doubt they'd be better in the ground but don't have the space so pots it'll have to be.
