Mystery Plant

Can anyone identify the plant in the pictures. It came from a garden clearance and whilst the foliage looks like mint there is no smell. It’s also quite tall (nearly 2 feet) and as you can see from the picture there is old wood. Have no idea if it will flower, is an evergreen or just a weed which I’ve dug up by mistake!

    What do you call "a garden clearance"? Was it your own garden? If the stem has a square section (as it seems) then good chances it's a lamiaceae, the same family as mint. If you crush a leave, does it have no smell at all, a faint smell, nice or pungent?

    It came from a friend’s garden who wanted to have a good clear out. I’ve crushed a leaf and there is no smell at all.

    I’ll be watching this thread with interest Joanne 😀. I bought three acteas in the early spring (ie before they had any leaf).  Two have turned out to be actea, one most definitely isn’t, and it looks like this 😀. My plan was to leave it in the pot until it flowered, when I might have more chance of identifying it.  My current guess is some sort of campanula

    Thank you so much for the advice. I think I will do the same and leave it in a pot until it does something else and then see what happens! I shall post pics if it does flower 😁👍🏻

    I used to have campanula lactiflora and from memory it looks very similar

    Hi Pete thank you for your suggestion. I’ve just googled it and would be delighted if the plant turns out to be one of those as it’s stunning and would fit very well in our border which is full of delphiniums, foxgloves, lupins etc.

    That’s stunning! I shall keep my fingers crossed that’s our plant. When does it flower?

    Last year it flowered from 18 June until 20 July, then a few sporadic flowers for another few weeks.
    I must have dug it up by mistake as it's not appeared this year, but it was 5-6 years old.
