Hi, can anyone please tell me if I need to worry about my rose stem and why it has split and gone brown. It is at the top of the stem and has buds on it. Thank you for your help.
Sometimes stems that split like that may be a sign your shrub has rose sawfly infestation. Keep an eye on the leaves and check the undersides for anything. If you don't see anything, you can leave it. But, if that was my rose, I would prune out the stem, it would not spoil the shape. Limits any chances of anything getting inside that wound. In the summer-time, a new stem will grow back quickly.
