Fear of where to start

Wanting to change our front garden due to its dry nature. We have lived here for 10 years and have some nice structural plants, but unsure how to blend them into a more Mediterranean look. We have spruced up an old water pump and bought some old tin baths, would like to plant up an old metal cart wheel with house leeks, but not found one yet. We would like to use pebbles to cover the area once planted so have some idea what we want. Have even drawn a scale drawing of the two sides. Just not sure where to start?

Hello Sarah  :). Any chance of a photo or two please ?
Depends on what you've got there at the  moment, a lawn to remove for instance. If so l would start by lifting the turf, then marking out the different areas you want, pebbles, pump etc.

I am just in the process of getting rid of bind weed and about to remove grass. I have also taken out a lot of plants that were not in best position. The grass has never grown very well I think due to the sandyness of the soil.

Hello Sarah, l am sticking with my original advice ! Remove the grass and then mark it out. Have a look at it from every angle, across the road, from the windows, from the path, before making your final decision . Leave it for a day or two just to be absolutely sure that's how you want it.
Gardeners' World Live will give you lots of inspiration, trust me !  :)

This is the lovely water pump we found. As you can see it will need sinking into ground. Think I will have to use a dummy one to get the layout. Thanks Anni
