Cornus contraversa variagata

I bought this plant last year it looked like it had been in a pot for several years. We planted in medium clay and it seemed to do well.
this year early May we had to move the plant about 6 feet away from its original spot to allow more room to grow. The roots seemed ok. It has since flowered profusely, however, the leave are minuscule, almost curled and wizened. Could this be due to the shock of moving, there is new growth coming, but this also looks tiny and slightly deformed, almost curled. I spent a fair whack on this tree and we also love it, so any advice would be moral welcome.

Ours suffered badly in spring from the late cold snap with bursts of very cold wind after the leaves had opened.  Both flowers (which were looking beautiful) and leaves shrivelled but it’s starting to recover now.

Did you have similar bad weather?  As that plus being dug up and moved can shock a plant badly.

Cornus generally enjoy fairly moist soil and yours has not had long to recover from being moved. The roots will have inevitably suffered some damage and it was about to flower, so it is very stressed.
Is the new site as moist as the old one and have you watered it well? Where I live, at least, it has been fairly dry until the last week or so, which would not have helped if true for you too. Giveit a while yet, and possibly offer some protection from very hot sun if you get any!
  • Thanks for all the replies, it's been very reassuring  I think from what everyone has said it's the shock of moving and intermittent hot and wet spells. I really appreciate the advice and will gently feed and water and give it chance to recover
