Guara plant smashed

GrajeanGrajean Posts: 447
We have had gale force wind up to 90 kms plus heavy rain and my poor guara is smashed just as about to flower. Having gathered up the broken stems and put into water will they root in time to flower this year? Would it be better to use rooting powder? Terrible weather here in NW France and my roses were in full bloom, tied and fastened to wall but still almost touching ground due to gales.

Probably not unfortunately, but the original gauras might well sprout again, although whether they will flower this year is debateable. Such bad luck though at this time of year.

If you trim the plant down, it should resprout.

Think of it as having given them a chelsea chop: the base should resprout quite quickly.  Mine never flower until July and then carry on going through to October.

Put the damaged stems in water. Some of them will probably root. If not, you've lost nothing.
