Digitalis ferruginea leaves going purple

I bought 3 digitalis ferruginea gigantea (rusty foxglove) about a year ago, two have died and the third has all of its leaves go purple.
All other plants in the bed are doing really well, anyone any idea why the purple, is this plant still alive? No sign of plant spikes from the purple one either.
