If you're not too shy for a bit of hi-viz would builders workwear do the job? I think the jackets and trousers must be designed to be tough, durable and waterproof for use on a building site.
I think I am a bit too shy to do that Kitty, the neighbours might mistake me for the binmen I think I might take a look on ebay though, I hadn't thought of that Topbird. Might get something decent at a slightly better price. Many thanks everyone for all of your suggestions.
I just went for a nosey on the screwfix website, typed in 'waterproof workwear' in their search bar and most of the stuff was black or dark navy. I won't link it in case I get spammed 😆 but worth a look I think. Lots of helly hansen stuff.
Wow! Thanks Kitty. I knew asking on here would be worthwhile. Looking on Screwfix would never have occurred to me. Maybe if I buy the gear and look the part I can start charging the neighbours for my help
Topbird is right re washing waterproofs. Don't use normal washing powder, use the correct technical stuff which is readily available - Nikwax etc. You shouldn't need anything too highbrow or expensive for gardening though. A decent 2 season jacket would be fine, and try and avoid abrasions [if possible] as that harms the integrity of the fabric. Try some of the big outdoor specialists, as they often have bargains just now to get rid of stock. My waterproofs are mainly North Face or Berghaus, and I use my old NF one if it's wet for gardening, but I don't do much when it's wet unless I really have to. Marmot and Sprayway are also good. They can cope with pretty much anything the Scottish summer [never mind winter] flings at them on hills, so a spell gardening shouldn't be a problem
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
