Problems with using grey water on plants?

I've been using the grey water from my washing machine to water our ornamental plants, largely without a problem, but I have noticed my sea hollies have all started to wilt a bit, so I suspect they don't like it. Now that it's raining, they all look happy again, so I'll avoid using grey water on them in future, but now I'm wondering what harm it might be doing to any other plants.

I have always understood that the strong detergents used in washing machines is not the best for plants but that your shower, bath and washing up are ok, though not on salads!

I think your right @Posy we have grey water and rain water harvesting but the wastes from washing machine and dishwasher are separate and go to the main drain everything else is filtered and UV treated before going to the holding tanks.
