Boskoop Ruby Help please

Hello
I am a novice gardener and have two Bowskoop Ruby which were planted around Easter. At first they looked ok and the flowers came out but now they don't look so good.
The soil didnt look too bad but we do have some clay and I read this doesn't like to be waterlogged. Would it be worth lifting them out and putting some shingle below for better drainage?

    I can't see the branches properly. Maybe it's just the flowers now going over, rather than looking sad. Are the leaves drooping too? Even though you have clay soil, they will still need watering in to settle in throughout the first year.

    Drainage and lots of sun will be ideal. So if you have managed to work the soil well and put in plenty of grit they can be grown in clay based soil.

    It's hard to tell from the pic but I think the brown bits are just the seed pods forming (like little pea pods) . If so there's nothing to worry about - it's normal for broom.
    Try digging down near the root ball, carefully with a trowel or similar, and see how wet the soil is. Unless it's absolutely sopping it'll be fine and digging it out and replanting would do more harm than good.
