Structural planting advice
Hi, I'm looking for a few fresh ideas for my garden, I've designed it over the past few years so the structure and levels are now complete and I'm happy with that.
I have 2 small bed areas, the bottom one I have borrowed and saved plants, the top is the odd bought specimen but mainly what was planted by the previous owner. The top is more of an issue as the planting comes through wave after wave but I have no control over it and as you can see it gets rather wild. I've given it a chance to see if I can live with it as there are some nice things but I'm too frustrated with the random nature of the colors and form.
I've done quite a garden designs for people but the planting is more of a challenge.
Ideally I want to strip both beds this weekend, saving anything decent and digging out any bulbs etc.. for reuse elsewhere. I'm
looking to plant some lower level structural plants, maybe evergreen to give the beds some real shape, into those I want small areas that will take pots that will have seasonal colour but will be buried below ground level and changed regularly.
Any advice, budget isn't massive and ideally I want plants that will uplight well to add interest in the evening. Finally, it's North Wales, 1000ft on a hillside and the snow can be several feet deep in a bad winter!
Thanks

I live at 2,300ft so we have winters!
Two very special plants that you might want to consider are first there are some beautiful dwarf conifers, I particularly find some of the pines rather lovely.
There are also a couple of dwarf ginkgos. One is very small, about 80cm. So you get lovely autumn colour and interesting shaped leaves to light. They are tough, but probably best for the bottom bed so slightly more sheltered from wind.
