Hedge Trimmers

Hello, I need to buy a hedge trimmer to cut about 60 metres or so of a mature cherry laurel hedge (top and both sides). I think a cordless model isn't going to work as the battery would likely run out mid-way through, so perhaps an electric or petrol model would be best? I wouldn't mind spending a bit more on a good quality one that will last a number of years.

I would appreciate any suggestions please. Thank you.

I would go with petrol but they can be heavy if you are not used to using them, double sided blade are even heavier . Stihl - echo - kawasaki - husqvarna are usual brands to look for . How tall is the hedge ? will you need ladders or long reach hedge trimmer
  • Thank you Perki. I've never used a hedge trimmer before, so didn't realise they could be heavy. Also, I had no idea which brands to look out for, so thank you for the recomendation. The hedge is currently about 3 metres or so in height. I would prefer not to stand on a ladder if it can be avoided, so would be keen to look at long reach trimmers. But from my understanding, the hedge will only need to be trimmed once or twice per years, so if I need to go on a ladder a couple times per year that isn't too bad.

The hedge is pretty 'overgrown' looking at the moment so if I can get a trimmer by this weekend, would it be ok to trim it now? I've been looking at it closely these past couple weeks and I don't think there are any birds nesting in there.

A 3m hedge will likely need a ladder AND a long reach trimmer.

Have you a budget in mind?

If the ground is level, a 1 leg adjustable 8ft tripod would be perfect. Then a petrol pole trimmer
  • Thanks Orchidia I'll have  look at the G Tech HT20, but I think you're right and a petrol or electric one might be best due to the battery running out before I could finish the entire hedge.

I wouldn't mind trimming it down to 2 metres height Glasgowdan. Hopefully once I get it trimmed into shape it will be fairly easy to maintain it. I'll have a look at the tripod you mentioned-Thank you!
