What’s wrong with my honeysuckle

last summer it was in a terrible state, but for now it seems ok, but why are the leaves so yellow? It’s in a tall metal pot.

Very few honeysuckles can be kept happy in a container for very long  ... they need a deep cool rootrun and lots of moisture.
What sort of compost is it in, and when was it last repotted with fresh compost? Has it been fed this year?

Thanks Dovefromabove. The pot is a metal pot which is very deep (about three and a half feet tall) and tapers at the bottom. I do put fresh compost on the top, but I haven't repotted it. I do feed it. I think perhaps it is in too much shade. I may try to plant it in the ground in a better spot and see what happens.

A metal container may be heating up too much ... if it must be in a container a glazed ceramic one or even plastic or one of the composites would be preferable.  And honeysuckle need their feet in the shade and their heads in the sun
do don’t move it into too much sun ☀️

I suspect repotting in a combination of John Innes No 3 loambased compost and some MPC at a ratio of 3:1 might improve the leaves as they look hungry to me.

Thanks for your advice. I do try to keep the pot cool when watering, but I sometimes forget. I've got the John Innes no. 3, but what is MPC? sorry.

    Multi purpose compost  :)
The shadier a position for the pot , the better. Metal isn't the best for a pot either. Have you a wooden or clay one instead?
Sorry - I see Dove's said the same! Although your pot's tall, there isn't a huge volume there to support a big climber like honeysuckle. A big square planter would be better if you can manage it.

Thanks Fairygirl - MPC - of course, had a 'duh' moment there.
