Mysterious bonsai

Hello!
Can anyone identify this bonsai? I live in Japan so obviously bought it here. It gets red berries in the autumn. At the moment it would also appear to be half dead for some reason and I'm not sure what to do.

    If you were here in the UK I would say that’s a Winged Spindle Euonymus alatus ... wings or ‘flanges’ on the branches, small creamy flowers, colourful red/orange seed capsules and amazing autumn leaf colour.  

    Has it been allowed to dry out? That moss looks very brown. 

    As you’re in Japan I suggest you get advice on its care from someone with comprehensive bonsai knowledge.

    some sort of spindle by the looks of those flanges on the stems

    Thaek you for the information! I will look into it and see if it looks enough like a match.

    I will try drying it out for a bit and see if that helps. 

    I actually brought the photos to a garden center here but their expert had no idea!

    You misunderstand me ... I was asking whether it is too dry?  It looks it.

    Oh, I see! I do water it every day but perhaps I need to give it more, then.

    I find it’s much better to give plants a good soaking and then drain and leave until the soil surface is dry again before repeating... rather than give a little water every day.

    bonsai's should always be stood in trays so you can water more easily
