@islander, you are very quick to pick up others for being rude, whilst often being very rude yourself,
That's a criticism that could be levelled much more fairly at you yourself @punkdoc and not at @islander

And why use exaggerated, judgemental and over emotional language like 'loathsome'. It doesn't make your case any stronger, and won't win you many likes :)

Sorry @nutcutlet, but I shall confirm your views, just to remind @1Runnybeak1, that she is always fairly quick to leap in with a rude comment, plus I am sick, if not old, but try not to go on about it too much.

I, and clearly others, took punkdoc’s post in a light-hearted manner which I assumed was his intention. The only point it turned sour was when you replied in SHOUTY CAPITAL MANNER, @islander. If you saw it as baiting, why rise to the bait? You have got your way, we have the like button, be happy with that and allow others their views.

You think it’s wonderful. It helps you. Thats wonderful. I, on the other hand, think it’s unnecessary and irrelevant (people say they do not need the approbation of loads of likes), impersonal (as opposed to a short personal message), imprecise (like what exactly.. works for a photo maybe but as many others have pointed out a thumbs up or smiley does the same thing) and yes, I do think the whole concept is loathsome in a social-media type of way and I very much enjoyed the fact that this forum wasn’t like that. Different strokes for different folks.

In the grand scheme of things though, is it important? Does it matter? No and no. The generosity of spirit, sharing of knowledge, friendship and support of the lovely people of this forum is what counts. Your health is what counts. Not leaving the forum is what counts.

I hope you take the above in the considered and balanced spirit it was intended.

Thanks @Nollie, it was meant as a joke, but it seems to have fallen a bit flat.

Well I would of liked your other post on Islander’s leaving thread, Dove, until I remembered I don’t like that  :D Good luck at the Dentist! @punkdoc, you’re welcome, just trying to be Switzerland, and probably failing...

This thread doesn't seem like a joke to me. An unnecessary, thoughtless comment to start with (my Facebook friends don't keep taking selfies by the way) and then unkind comments to elderly ladies.

Since I suggested a "like" button on a new thread punkdoc has gone on and on about it. Many of us like it and if you don't like it then just ignore it, like I usually do when people talk about politics on Forkers.

I'm hoping @DanielHaines will delete this whole thread.

Sorry you have a sense of humour failure, but it was clearly a joke. Who is seriously going to try and get everyone to post daily selfies in their gardens, particularly someone who hates social media, and the terrible competitive nature of it....... my life is perfect, look at me...... look at how many likes I have got.
You obviously think that likes are a good idea @Busy-Lizzie, and that is fine, but they seem to be causing a lot of trouble, are you blaming me for all of it? I hope not.

I thought this thread started in a very amusing manner before unkind ladies rudely waded in. I guess we all view things in different ways though.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
